Not-for-Profit Organizations

central pennsylvania nonprofit connectio

Our firm supports Not-for-Profit organizations both personally and professionally.  We volunteer on a regular basis and sit on multiple boards within the community.  Terri holds the AICPA Not-for-Profit certificate, which indicates specialized and in-depth training in areas unique to NFP's. Although Not-For-Profits have many issues similar to for-profit businesses, the accounting, financial, and governmental reporting can differ significantly and post unusual and complex issues for boards, employees, and volunteers.  We are also a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations, which gives us access to additional resources and training that is beneficial to our Not-for-Profit clients.

We have collaborated with members of the local nonprofit community to create a public group Facebook page tailored to the needs of those working with or for nonprofit organizations.  Please join the discussions at https://www.facebook.com/groups/NonprofitConnections/.

Not-for-Profit Reporting Services

All small businesses need a good financial reporting framework and Not-for-Profit organizations are no exception.  We can help your organization track your funding and expenses and communicate with your members and the public by:

  • Preparing a year-end Form 990 to file with the IRS, if required by your donor contribution and fundraising levels

  • Preparing financial statements to be presented to your members and board of directors

  • Auditing of nonprofits, as required by federal, state, or organizational regulations

  • Setting up QuickBooks to aid your treasurer in tracking income and expenses and other information required by the annual IRS Form 990

  • Setting up payroll processing in QuickBooks, if your organization has employees

  • Setting up electronic services to allow you to sell goods/tickets online or to receive donations electronically

  • Attending board meetings, as requested, to answer board and volunteer questions and to explain the overall financial health and obligations of the organization

Filing for 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit Status

Being recognized as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by the IRS not only gives your organization more acceptance by the public, but can aid in soliciting tax deductible contributions.  We can process and file all of the required paperwork with the IRS to aid in gaining this 501(c)3 status.  We will walk you through all the steps, including:

  • Ensuring you have all of the appropriate legal documents, including Articles of Incorporation
    and Bylaws

  • Filing for an EIN

  • Incorporating with the State

  • Requesting a corporate trade name

  • Preparing the Form 1023 and gathering the required documentation as required by the IRS

  • Filing for a Games of Chance license, if needed for fundraising purposes

  • Filing for a sales tax exemption license with the state
